  5. Hepatitis A is a viral liver infection that is highly contagious but, fortunately, does not result in a chronic infection. The incubation period for Hepatitis A is 15 to 50 days. Recently, in the month of August, there was an outbreak of Hepatitis A that affected 55 people. The source of this outbreak was frozen strawberries imported from Egypt. As stated by the CDC, there are between 1,700 and 2,800 cases reported each year. However, there is a vaccine for this infection considering that there was a 95% decrease in the rates because of it. Hopefully, in the future, food handlers and companies will pay extra attention to the safety of their consumers and the safety of their food.

  12. Hepatitis A, also referred to as Hep A, is a viral infection that occurs in the liver. Hepatitis A is spread through the contact of an infected person, food or water that is contaminated, or by eating food that was previously contaminated by feces of an infected person. Symptoms of hepatitis A does not occur right away in human beings, the incubation period occurs within 15 to 50 days before people are aware that they have the viral infection. According to the article by Susan Scutti from CNN, the contaminated strawberries that contained hepatitis A were from Egypt. Hepatitis A cases range between 1,700 to 2,800 annually in the United States each year. Although hepatitis A still occurs in people today, it can also be preventable. Luckily, a vaccine called the hepatitis A vaccine has been established in 1995 to prevent Hepatitis A. During the year of 1995, the viral infection has declined by 95%. Hepatitis A can cure on its own within 1 or 2 months, but the best way to cure hepatitis A is through a medical diagnosis, medical assistance, and the hepatitis A vaccine. -Darnecia Long
